A 72-year-old Nigerian medical practitioner Dr Daniel Ikebuilo, who earlier been arraigned on 5March 5, 2025 for allegedly stealing a child in Anambra State has again been arrested for similar offence

Penpushing reports that Ikebuilo was arraigned before the Anambra State Children, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Offences Court sitting in Awka alongside other defendants including Ifunanya Ogbonna, (23) and Chidiogo Ogbonna (20)

The trio are facing a five-count charge of conspiracy, child stealing, illegal deal and sale of a child, but they all pleaded not guilty to the offences allegedly committed on April 30, 2025 at Okpoko in Onitsha.

Penpushing further reports that the prosecutor, Chinyere Okechukwu, told the court that the two female defendants conspired and fraudulently took away the seven-year-old boy from his mother, Kosarachukwu Okpala.

The prosecutor added that the duo later sold the 7-year-old boy to the Doctor for N700,000 who thereafter re-sold the child for N2.3 million, stating that the offences contravened Sections 495(a) and 321 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Anambra, 1991, as amended

Penpushing also reports that she added that the offences violated Section 31(1) (4) of the state’s Child Rights Law of 2004 and Section 15(1) of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition and Protection Law of Anambra State of Nigeria, 2017.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendants, pointing out that Ifunanya Ogbonna and Daniel Ikebuilo had earlier been arraigned on March 5, 2025 for similar offences.

“Immediately after they perfected their bail application following the March arraignment, they stole another child in April’, the prosecutor told the court.

Penpushing reports that the Chief Magistrate, U.E. Onochie, however, ordered the defendants to be remanded at the Awka Correctional Centre before adjourning the case until August 13, 2025 for ruling on the bail application.
