Delegates arrive Kenya as trade mission, business tour kicks off

Delegates across African countries which include Nigeria have arrived Nairobi, Kenya Capital for the four-day trade mission and business development tour under the auspices of Economic of West African States (ECOWAS)

Penpushing reports that the event which kick-off on Wednesday at MovenPick Hotel and Residence, Nairobi, will feature Elizabeth Thande, Chairperson East African Women in Business Platform (EAWiBP) to give keynote address.

The topic for the day is ‘Policy and Governance: How is the voice of women in decision-making shaping and redefining Africa’s Future Today?’ which is also expected to pave way for women to occupy space in governance, and in positions of leadership.

Penpushing further reports that women are known to have overcome the negative impacts of patriarchy, and gender norms, so the big question is how instrumental then is women’s collective action to moving from the periphery to the centre in these challenging times.

The conference will in the same vein look at what case studies from any African Nation can the participants’ share of the involvement of women in achieving transformational change

The second presentation with the theme, ‘Role of Innovation, Regional Co-operation, and Strategic Partnerships for a Successful AfCFTA’, will be presented by Mr. Aminou Akadiri, Executive Director Federation of West Africa Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Penpushing also reports that the presentation is expected to address need in eliminating barriers to trade in Africa, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) will lift 30 million people from extreme poverty and another 68 million people from moderate poverty.

The women being a key stakeholder in this process, what are the tangible successes they  have recorded to agree with the statement above, as record has it that as at February 2022, eight countries representing the five regions of the continent – Cameroon, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Rwanda, Tanzania and Tunisia participated in the African Continental Free Trade Area(AfCFTA’s) Guided Trade

Penpushing reports that initiative, which seeks to facilitate trade among interested African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) state parties that have met the minimum requirements for trade, under the Agreement, and therefore what are the bottlenecks that have been identified and the permanent solutions to it.

The East Africa Business Council is partnering with Compass Global Business Services to host the event, while  panel discussion will focus on the topic, ’East and West Business Linkage: Tapping into Regional Value Chain Opportunities’

Penpushing further reports that the conference is targeted towards connecting the West and East of Africa in line with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) opportunity, and geared to strengthen private sector participation especially in the space of exports, and in international trade.

The East African Business Council (EABC) is the regional apex body of private sector associations and corporates in the East Africa with a single purpose of driving the East African Community integration process through trade and investment.

Penpushing also reports that East African Business Council(EABC) is  to achieve this works with the public sector, East African Community (EAC) institutions, the academia, and the business community to unlock economic potential through increased physical access to markets, enhanced trade environment and improved business competitiveness.

Penpushing reports that Mr. John Bosco Kalisa Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, East African Business Council  explained that objective of the East African Business Council(EABC) is to amplify Intra-Africa Trade through event such as the West meets East Africa Trade Mission and Business Development
