The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested the Vice Chancellor of Federal University Gusau, Prof Magaji Garba, over alleged N260million contract scam,and said to be under investigation.
Penpushing reports that, the Head Media and Publicity of the agency, Wilson Uwujaren confirmed the arrest, but yet to give details, as at the time of filing this report, while source said Garba was being investigated over allegations of fraudulently obtaining the sum of N260 million from a contractor, and businessman, Shehu Sambo, owner of Ministaco Nigeria Limited, sometime in 2018.
The source disclosed that as at the time of this report, the Vice Chancellor was said to be in detention at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory(FCT),adding that he was said to have promised his victim that the university was going to award his company a contract worth N3 billion for the construction of perimeter wall fence for the institution.
Penpushing further reports that, the source said the proposed contract failed to work out while the money was not returned, hence, the Vice Chancellor arrest, and currently undergoing investigation.
“He was detained by the agency on Thursday January 28 after he honoured an invitation in relation to his involvement in a case of abuse of office, corrupt practices and contract scam.The VC is still being grilled by investigators of the EFCC, who are interested in knowing what happened to the money”, the source added.
