Military investigation into the alleged coup plot has reportedly beamed its searchlight on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), having uncovered a trail of N45 billion into its account allegedly meant to carry out the coup.

Penpushing reports that as at the time of filing this report, details of the interrogation of the commission officials remain unclear, but sources said investigators have embarked on scrutinising a series of high-value transactions carried out in recent months allegedly linked to politically-exposed persons.

The sources added that they include a shoreline project awarded to a former governor in the South-South to the tune of N45billion, some of which allegedly found its way to the account of some of the detained officers.

Penpushing further reports that security sources familiar with the ongoing probe confirmed that the interrogation of the commission top shots was part of a broader intelligence-based inquiry into the movement of public funds.

The sources at commission, however, disclosed to that many top officials are apprehensive that the development may trigger a broader probe into the commission’s financial dealings, stressing that the invitation of the top executives of the agency had triggered widespread anxiety among senior officials.

Penpushing also reports that an inside source pointed out that since the news of the alleged coup broke out and interrogation of some top shots of the commission, the atmosphere has been uneasy

“Since the news broke about the interrogation of the top shots, the atmosphere here has been uneasy. Many directors are being cautious about their movements and communications’, the source stated.

Penpushing reports that it was learnt as at the time of filing this report some executive Directors who maintain close administrative ties with the embattled top shots of the commission are said to be worried about the development.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Seledi Thompson-Wakama, when contacted on interrogation of the commission’s officials, declined comments
