The Child Labour Steering Committee, Ogun State was on Tuesday resuscitated with focus on importance of active participation and leveraging members’ personal and institutional networks to support children’s welfare, particularly without relying entirely on external funding.

Penpushing reports the meeting chaired by Director/State Controller Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment was held at the Federal Secretariat Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, with twenty-one members in attendance.

The convener of the meeting in his remarks acknowledged the presence of all committee members and emphasised that the committee is a technical working group on child protection in Ogun State.

Penpushing further reports that he encouraged each participant to view their involvement as a social responsibility rather than formal duty, stressing that the primary focus was the revitalisation of the committee.

The meeting in its resolutions supported revitalisation efforts and proposed child and family sensitisation campaigns through the media, emphasised leveraging networks to access resources and services without relying heavily on finances.

Penpushing also reports that the meeting suggested targeting orphanages and conducting youth workshops to boost visibility, as well as highlighted availability of government facilities, noting the Ministry conference room for sensitisation programmes.

The meeting equally announced plans to write to the Commissioner of Police to follow up on child protection units in police stations, as well as highlighting root causes of child vulnerability, especially broken homes, and urged awareness involving religious and community leaders.

Penpushing reports that in similar vein, the committee agreed to launch a sensitisation programme on October 1, 2025, as well as advocating for parenting-focused sensitization, not leaving out market women in the outreach

The meeting also adopted offer by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) on access to field officers across twenty local government areas of Ogun State for grassroots mobilization, as well as adopting need to focus on rural communities while not neglecting urban abuse cases, and recommended an implementation plan to guide activities and maintain direction.

Penpushing further reports that the committee agreed and mentioned existing strategic documents and the possible creation of a subcommittee, and equally to address child-related cases.

The meeting assigned members to map contributions towards the committee’s focus for synthesis into a cohesive plan, with each member to map out individual contributions towards the sensitisation agenda.

Penpushing also reports that the committee agreed to synthesise all member inputs into a consolidated implementation plan, explaining that future deliberations may be increasingly held virtually to enhance collaboration.

Meanwhile, the committee members present at the meeting include officials from government ministries, private organisations, civil society groups and media practitioners
