The All Progressives Congress (APC) Ogun State on Thursday adopted Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu as its consensus candidate for Ogun Central Senatorial District ahead of the forthcoming 2027 election.
Penpushing reports that Governor Dapo Abiodun accompanied by Chairman of the party, Chief Yemi Sanusi, the party governorship consensus candidate, Olamilekan Solomon and other chieftains of the ruling party made the adoption announcement of Salisu at a stakeholders meeting held in Abeokuta.
The Governor explained that the consensus method was introduced to ensure the emergence of credible and widely accepted candidates who have contributed meaningfully to the growth and development of the party in the state.
Penpushing further reports that he added that All Progressives Congress(APC) executives were committed to ensuring peaceful and rancour-free primary elections, and described Salisu, as a dependable and reliable politician and administrator
The adopted candidate currently representing Ogun Central Senatorial District at the national assembly, was Abiodun’s Chief of Staff during his first term in office, but now seeking a second term in office.
“He is consistent. He is dependable and reliable. Ogun State remains a model among states in the country in terms of party organisation. I want to urge you to sustain the existing momentum during the electioneering period. I can assure you that, with the help of God, we will emerge victorious, the governor said.
Penpushing also reports that the Governor expressed appreciation to citizens and residents of the state for their support for his administration, affirming that the support has enabled the state to maintain one of the fastest-growing economies in the country.
The Governor disclosed that the party’s direct primary elections would commence on Friday and urged members to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid actions capable of undermining the integrity of the process.
Penpushing reports that the Chairman of the party in his welcome speech explained that the meeting was convened to discuss the party’s processes and how to ensure unity ahead of the 2027 elections, and equally called for decorum during the primary of the party.
The other leaders of the party at the event included Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele; former Deputy Governor, Prince Segun Adesegun; Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Daisi Elemide; Hon. Olumide Osoba; and Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Kunle Isiaka.
Penpushing further reports that others were former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Titi Oseni-Shodunke; former Speakers of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tunji Egbetokun and Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo; Federal Commissioner, Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Hon. Akeem Amosun; and Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade.
The others equally include Chief Joju Fadairo, Dr Femi Majekodunmi, Chief(Mrs) Ronke Ogunremi, Adijat Adeleye(former Commissioner of Women Affairs), Hon Kayode Amusan, Tokunbo Talabi(Secretary to Ogun State Government)
