The coronation of the new traditional ruler of Owu Kingdom of Egbaland, Oba Saka Matemilola has been scheduled to kick-start on Monday, with crowning activities which include youth rally and cultural night at the palace located at Oke-Ago-Owu in Abeokuta.
Penpushing reports that, this was made known by Central Planning Committee Chairman, Chief Ekundayo Opaleye at a press conference held on Sunday at the palace, adding that, the line up activities will be between October 24 to 30, 2022.
The chairman accompanied by a notable Owu monarch, Towulade of Akinale, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye and Dr Kola Adesina, Oyelade(retired Deputy Inspector General of Police) among other committee members explained that, on Tuesday, homage will be pay to the Olowu by his subjects in the Owu communities, as well as games, networking and fellowship.
Penpushing further reports that, the time table stated that on Wednesday, similar programme of Tuesday will be repeated, while on Thursday there will be youth seminar, and launching of Olowu foundation at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta
The committee added that on Friday there will be golf tournament at Abeokuta Golf Club, as well as self-development seminar at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, while optional tour of historical place in the ancient town will hold
Penpushing also reports that, the programme has it that on Saturday, there will be Odun Omo Olowu grandfinale, as well as presentation of Staff of Office for the royal father by the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun at Oba Odeleye Park, Totoro, Abeokuta
The committee added that, a thanksgivings involving Muslim, Christian and Traditional is scheduled to hold on Sunday at Oba Odeleye Park, Toronto, Abeokuta, and followed with World Press by Olowu of Owu, at the palace
Penpushing reports that, the committee disclosed that, arrangements for perfect and peaceful coronation have been put in place, which include free medical services and adequate security among others
The new Olowu of Owu Kingdom, it is recalled had expressed appreciation on his choice as the new monarch of the ancient town, and called for support from all other contestants to the stool, enjoining them to support him for the developmental growth of the town
Penpushing further reports that, the monarch in the letter tagged, ’My Dear Brothers in Otileta Dynasty’, said he acknowledged with thanks all their individual and collective congratulatory messages, as well as prayers bestowed on him
The royal father assured that he would dedicate himself to the service of humanity, and put everything that God has endowed with him to the service of Owu kingdom, and humanity at large, stressing that his generation owes it a duty to his forefathers to sustain the proud legacy
‘All thanks and praises to God, the creator of the heavens and the earth and everything that is within them. I acknowledge with thanks, your individual and collective congratulatory messages. I particularly thank you for your prayers’, he stated.
‘Until recently, I have made modest efforts to dedicate myself to the service of humanity. With my selection as the Olowu of Owu, my pledge is to put everything that God has endowed me with, to the service of Owu people and to humanity at large’,Matemilola emphasised.
‘Several generations of our forebearers worked hard and made lots of sacrifices to build the legacy of Owu kingdom, which we all proudly inherited. Therefore, our generation owes a duty to our forefathers, ourselves and the future generations of Owu sons and daughters, to play our part to not only sustain our proud legacy, but to also build upon it’, he said.
‘My belief is that each one of us who contested for the role of Olowu of Owu, did so with the primary intention of serving our people. What is at stake is the future of Owu kingdom, and not Saka Matemilola as the Olowu. A lot have been achieved in the recent past. But there is still a lot of work ahead of us. If we are to make a difference in our generation, we need all hands on deck. And the first step is to forge a united front’.
‘Therefore, I call on every one of us to put Owu first, come together as one united people, and to re-dedicate ourselves to the progress and development of our common heritage. I look forward to working with you all, as well as all well-meaning sons and daughters of Owu, towards taking Owu to its pride of place. Please accept the assurances of my best regards’, the letter reads.
