The nine abducted Ekiti state schoolchildren and their teachers have been released by their captors on Sunday, after spending six days in captivity, but the driver of the bus Taye Rasaki was not that lucky having being killed by the bandits.
Penpushing reports that it is recalled that six pupils, two teachers and a driver of Apostolic Faith Church Primary and Secondary School, Emure were abducted in Eporo while being transported home after school hours.
The abductors on Wednesday demanded N100 million ransom, but the amount was reportedly reduced to N15 million, while a source, however, said the families of the abducted victims were able to raise N7 million, which the abductors turned down, but as at the time of this report it was not clear if the families eventually paid the N15 million ransom as demanded by the kidnappers.
Penpushing further reports that the children, however, regained freedom at about 2 a.m. on Sunday after spending six days in captivity, which was equally confirmed by the Ekiti State Police Command, adding that the driver was killed by the abductors
The Public Relations Officer of the command Sunday Abutu, however, did not confirm whether the victims were rescued by the police and if the families paid ransom for their freedom as demanded by the kidnappers, but said the police would continue to hunt for the kidnappers.
“All victims were rescued today in the early hours of today, Sunday, but unfortunately, we lost the driver who was suspected to have been killed by the abductors. Though some arrests have been made in recent past, our operations shall continue as we want to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law”, he said.
