The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Local Government Chairmen Forum in Nigeria, Hon. Henry Fagbenro, has observed that the events of June 12, 1993 is a defining moment that reshaped national consciousness around democracy, civic responsibility, and the will of the people.

Penpushing reports that Fagbenro in a press statement to mark the historic day stated that, in addition democracy day remains a solemn reminder of Nigeria’s history, emphasizing that June 12 continues to represent the voice of the people

The politician popularly known as Agbomola pointed out that the annulled presidential election, in which Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola is widely regarded as the winner, remains a symbol of the people’s struggle for justice, fairness, and protection of electoral choice.

“June 12 continues to represent the voice of the people and the sacrifices made to ensure that democracy is sustained as a system rooted in participation and accountability’, Fagbenro added

Penpushing further reports that he stressed that these ideals remain central to Nigeria’s democratic evolution, and reflecting on his experience during the democratic struggles of that era, said the lessons of that period remain relevant in strengthening civic awareness and sustaining democratic values across generations.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain emphasized the need to deepen democratic practice at the grassroots, noting that citizens remain central to governance through participation, engagement, and involvement in community development and national discourse.

Penpushing also reports that Fagbenro acknowledged ongoing efforts across different levels of governance under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the national level and Prince Dapo Abiodun in Ogun State, aimed at improving infrastructure, security, and socio-economic conditions, stressing the need for such efforts to continually reflect in the everyday lives of the people.

The renowned politician maintained that leadership at both the national and state levels remain committed to strengthening institutions, expanding opportunities, and improving the welfare of citizens, while noting that sustained efforts are required to deepen democratic dividends.

Penpushing reports that Fagbenro while noting that challenges persist, urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and engaged, adding that democracy is best sustained when citizens continue to play active roles in shaping their collective future.

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Local Government Chairmen Forum equally called for stronger collaboration between citizens, community stakeholders, and governance structures, stressing that democratic progress is most meaningful when it reflects improvements in everyday life at the grassroots.

Penpushing further reports that he reaffirmed that the true strength of democracy lies in the participation of the people, and in the continuous effort to ensure that the dividends of democracy are felt across all communities in Nigeria.
