The new Commissioner of Police (CP) in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, on Monday assumed office in Akure, the state capital, assuring residents of safety of lives and property, as well as to live up to the expectations.
Penpushing reports that Lawal who is the 46th Commissioner of Police in the state, it is recalled was posted to replace Wilfred Afolabi who as at the time of filing this replaced had handed over to him.
The new police boss at the handing over ceremony expressed appreciation to the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for counting him worthy of the position, just as he called on major stakeholders for support.
Penpushing further reports that the new commissioner of police in the same vein appreciated his predecessor for his efforts at reducing crimes to a minimum in the state, while serving as the commissioner.
“I see this position as a very big shoe, but I have the confidence that with the management team around me and with the support of the good people of Ondo State, all will be well. I have taken the responsibility, it’s a challenge. I want to assure everybody that I will live up to expectations’, he said
“So, all I am calling for is the support of everyone, particularly the stakeholders, because security is not the responsibility of the police alone. I am also calling on the military, civil defence, and non-state actors to give all the support that you gave my predecessor’, Lawal added.
Penpushing also reports that the outgone Commissioner of Police earlier in his speech appreciated the Inspector General of Police for logistics and technical support during his tenure, stating that 204 suspects were arrested during his seven-month tenure.
The immediate past commissioner thanked Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, journalists and other stakeholders for their support and appealed to them to replicate the same to his successor.
