The celebration of first anniversary in office of President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to hold in the next few days which is believe to be a democracy celebration, but it is not yet clear if the events will be scheduled to hold on May 29 or June 12.

Penpushing reports that Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebration was being held on May 29 before it was changed to June 12, by the administration of former President Mohammed Buhari in commemoration of the 12 June 1993, presidential election annulled by the military government

The incumbent President who took over from Buhari, a frontline major supporter of late Moshood Abiola, played a major role in the change of the Democracy Day to 12 June, while it is on record that election data showed that the deceased won the polls.

Penpushing further reports the former Military President and dictator, General Ibrahim Babangida(rtd), however, annulled the election known to be the fairest and freest in the history of the country, which made it impossible for Abiola to be sworn in.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris addressing a Ministerial Press Briefing on Wednesday at the Radio House in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) explained that celebration is going to be low key

“The anniversary is going to be low-key, there would be no major ceremony but a sectorial briefing by the ministers. The essence is to ensure that government funds are kept for the people’, the Minister stated

Penpushing also reports that on the plan for the one year in office, Idris disclosed that the celebration is going to focus on sectorial debates instead of the usual celebrations, and there won’t be major ceremony

‘The anniversary is going to be low key, there would be no major ceremony but sectorial briefing by the ministers. The essence is to ensure that government funds are kept for the people,” the minister emphaised.

Penpushing reports that he stated that the debate would be focused on eight key sectors of the government, and that ministers would be delegated to speak on different sectors, stressing that the ministerial briefing series will be taking place daily with different ministers briefing on the activities in their sector.
