Fire has gutted the zonal office of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC)located in Iyana mortuary area of Abeokuta South local government of Ogun state.
Penpushing reports that,the fire was said to have occurred midnight, but the cause was yet to be unknown as at the time of filing this report, when our reporter visited the scene.
The fire was reported to have damaged all offices in the building, destroying some valuables in the office, while the fire service raced to the scene to salvage the situation before it escalated and consumed the entire building.
Penpushing also reports that, the staffers of the commission were seen sitting outside the compound after the fire had been put under control,as number of electorates who came for update of their voter cards were turned back by the officials.
The administrative secretary of the commission, Stephen Ojewande when contacted confirmed the incident, adding that the authorities still busy taking stock of the damage.
