Number of people were reported to have been trapped inside a rubble, following collapse of a four-storey building located at Iman Street, off Aka Road, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, while source said the contractors were on the fourth floor when the incident happened
Penpushing reports that, residents in the area said the building was supposed to be a six-storey building, while as at the time of the incident, they (residents) were unable to help the situation, and appealed to the authorities to act quickly in order to save lives.
The resident identified to own a fashion shop nearby, while speaking over the ugly development said her shop and other shops had been destroyed by the impact, while in the same vein, another person who has a wine shop nearby, said three people may have been trapped inside the rubble.
A popular radio presenter in Akwa Ibom popularly called ‘MC Governor’ who was doing the live feeds, was quoted saying that from what he was seeing, it does not seem that the materials used for the building were okay.
“From what I am seeing here, it doesn’t seem that the materials used for the construction of the building were okay. Look at the rod, 8mm, used in constructing a six-storey building! Now, lives have been lost”, he was quoted saying
Penpushing further reports that, the State Fire Service arrived the scene around 7:50 p.m, but were unable to rescue those trapped as at the time of filing this report, and said to be looking for an excavator
