Barely 48-hours of presenting N1.188 trillion 2025 budget to a three-member faction of the state legislature on Monday, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has signed it into law.

Penpushing reports that this was made known by his Chief Press Secretary Nelson Chukwudi, who shared videos of the signing ceremony on Facebook on Thursday, while it is recalled that Fubara earlier made the presentation before Rt Hon Victor Oko-Jumbo led faction of the assembly.

The Governor who is at logger head with his predecessor, Nyemson Wike had appealed to the Supreme Court to challenge Appeal Court verdict which had invalidated the 2024 budget, while this development looks a repeat of what happened last year, where he (Fubara) presented the N800 billion 2024 budget before a four-member assembly and assented to it within 24 hours.

Penpushing further reports that as at the time of filing this report it was not clear if the loyalists assembly members of Wike, who is now a Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will equally challenge the 2025 budget.

The majority of the lawmakers, shut out of the assembly because of the protracted political battle between the governor and Wike, and have challenged the validity of the Rivers 2024 budget in court, while the Supreme Court is expected to give its ruling on the matter.
