The National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ogun State Chapter on Tuesday joined millions of women across the globe to celebrate the International Women’s Day, a ceremony held in Abeokuta.
Penpushing reports that, the ceremony was jointly organized by the women journalists in collaboration with the Naccima Business Women Group(NAWORG) and Ogun State Women Sheabutter Golden Farmers Cooperative Multipurpose Society.
The Chairperson of the women journalists, Modupe Sobukola in her speech said women need to support themselves to make headway, and break the bias syndrome, noted to be affecting the positive growth of the women folk.
Penpushing further reports that, she frowned at the recent throwing away of the gender bills by the male dominated National Assembly, pointing out that such decision by the federal lawmakers was not in the best interest of the country.
The number one female journalist in the state, pointed out that what women were asking for was not too much, stressing that, the women were asking for space to showcase their talents, and to exhibit what they are capable of doing to make Nigeria better
‘For the National Assembly to throw the gender bills away, it is unfortunate for the National Assembly to throw away the gender bills for women, because there are a lot of things that has to do with men that was passed and that of women are rejected’, Sobukola lamented .
‘We the women are pleading with the National Assembly to please give us a space, it is not competition. What they need we too need, what they have we too have, so we should be allowed’, she said.
