The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described the immediate past Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun as shining ambassador of great values, whose story is a reminder that excellence is attainable, integrity matters, and service to humanity remains the highest calling.

Penpushing reports that Abiodun stated this at the civic reception in honour of the retired police boss with the theme “Celebrating a Life of Service, Integrity and Leadership” put together by the Yewa People Development Council (YPDC) in collaboration with the Yewa Traditional Council, held at the Yewa Frontier Hotel, Ilaro, Ogun State.

The Governor represented by Head of Service Kehinde Onasanya added that the gathering was a symbolic ideal that reflects the enduring values of gratitude, unity, and recognition that define the people of Yewa.

Penpushing further reports that he stated that it underscored the collective commitment to celebrating excellence, integrity, and service to humanity as sons and daughters of the State continue to join the league of trailblazers in the nation.

“We gather to celebrate a man whose journey is defined by discipline, courage, and an unwavering commitment to service— IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun PhD (Rtd)’, Abiodun said.

‘His distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force, culminating in his service as the Inspector-General of Police, stands as a shining example of professionalism, integrity, and patriotism’, he added.

“Notably, he holds the enviable distinction of being the first indigene of Ogun State to rise to the position of Inspector-General of Police in our great nation. This is no small feat; it is a landmark achievement that has etched his name permanently in the annals of our history’.

‘As a government, we deeply appreciate his meritorious service to the nation. His tenure was marked by a firm commitment to national security, institutional reforms, and the strengthening of public trust in law enforcement”, he said.

Penpushing also reports that Abiodun appreciated the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, for his exemplary leadership, wisdom, and steadfast commitment to the peace, unity, and progress of Yewaland, as his reign has continued to foster harmony, strengthen cultural heritage, and provide a stabilizing influence that has enabled the region to thrive.

The Governor equally appreciated the Yewa Traditional Council and the Yewa People Development Council for their unwavering roles in guiding and preserving the values of the people and noted that collective leadership remains a pillar upon which the socio-cultural and developmental aspirations of Yewaland are built.

Penpushing reports that he submitted that their efforts in supporting, developing, and promoting community-based organisations that focus on development, inclusion, and service delivery align with the vision of his administration towards the successful implementation of the “Building our Future Together” Agenda.

The governor re-assured the people that his administration will never lower its guard on the security architecture of the state but will continue to invest in modern security infrastructure, strengthen inter-agency collaboration, and support community-based security initiatives.

Penpushing further reports that Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, in his address said the gathering was to appreciate Egbetokun for all he had done to make them proud, as his type can only be found once in a while in a region and presented to him a plaque of recognition for his sense of service to the entire nation.

The Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, in his remarks described Egbetokun as a man who came, saw and conquered, for putting in his best to strengthen the Police Force as well as the security architecture of the nation at the crucial time he served and added that all his transformative agenda in the Force cannot be undermined.

Penpushing also reports that others who spoke glowing about the retired police chieftain include Minister of State for Health, Dr. Kunle Salako, Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, and Olatoye Durosinmi, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police

They congratulated him for demonstrating courage, discipline, clarity of purpose, dedication and exemplary leadership while in service, pointing out  that he was a firm believer of professional development which has moved the force to greater heights and charged those behind to emulate Egbetokun by serving with dignity and professionalism.

Penpushing reports that earlier in a welcome address, the Chairman, Yewa People Development Council, Prof. Rahaman Bello, said Egbetokun is a child of history for been the first indigene of Ogun State and the Yewa extraction to be appointed as the 22nd Inspector General of Police, this he said was borne out of his preparedness towards professionalism and dedication.

The chairman added that the honour was done the retired policeman to serve as enablers and models to upcoming youngsters, especially Yewa indigenes in service at whatever level they find themselves, and appreciated all stakeholders for unwavering support at making the event a huge success.

Penpushing further reports that Egbetokun in his response said a life defined by the values of integrity, discipline, contentment and dedication took him to the pinnacle of his career and appreciated all and sundry for the honour done him, especially the President, Bola Tinubu, for giving him the opportunity to serve at the highest level of the Police Force.

Meanwhile, highlights of the event, which drew eminent personalities, both serving and retired from far and near, included cutting of the cake, coordinated by a former Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Alhaja Salmot Badru, as well as cultural displays.
