A woman identified as Blessing Ayebe has been found dead in a church toilet facility in the Ikot Ansa area of Calabar Municipality, Calabar, Cross River State capital.
Penpushing reports that the corpse was discovered around 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2026, while the family had earlier raised the alarm after she was declared missing, while on Tuesday, July 1,2026 her daughter, Peace Ayebe, reported the matter at the Federal Housing Police Station in Calabar.
The daughter said she was informed of her mother’s disappearance by her brother, Saviour Ayebe, however, the Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the incident on Sunday adding that the case is under investigation.
Penpushing further reports that the Command Public Relations Officer, Sunday Eitokpah, added that the corpse has been deposited in the morgue for preservation and autopsy as at the time of filing this report.
“The corpse has been deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy to determine the cause of death. No suspect has been identified or arrested at this stage, as there is presently no evidence of foul play. Investigation is ongoing, and further developments will be communicated as they unfold’, Eitokpah said.
Penpushing also reports that police sources, said the woman attended a service at the church on Saturday, June 28,2026, but did not return home after the programme ended, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
