The members of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ogun State Council on Thursday re-elected Wale Olanrewaju for a second term alongside other executives to run the affairs for next three years.

Penpushing reports that Olanrewaju was returned unopposed at the election held at Iwe-Iroyin Press Centre, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, conducted by national officers of the union led by Ronke Samo, who is the Vice President B, Zone

The election was equally monitored by security operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to maintain peace and order, as well as officials of Nigerian Labour Congress(NLC) as observers.

Penpushing further reports that in same vein, Abiodun Lawal of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), was returned unopposed as Vice Chairman, while Bunmi Adigun of Ogun State Television (OGTV), equally returned as Secretary with 153 votes, to defeat his opponent, Modupe Salabiu of Ministry of Information, who polled 8 votes.

The reporter from Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Lukman Adefeso clinched position of Financial Secretary with 161 votes to defeat Kunle Ibikunle of the Ogun State Television (OGTV), who polled 19 votes, while Olayinka Ezema was elected as Auditor, as well as Toyin Oyelumade re-elected unopposed as Assistant Secretary

Penpushing also reports that the elected chairman was sworn in by a lawyer assigned by the union, and after his (Olanrewaju) swearing in, he subsequently sworn in other elected officials

The chairman in his acceptance speech, traced the ongoing event to the past three years when he was elected as the Chairman, adding that the mandate is acceptable and not for him alone but all Ogun state journalists.

“I hereby accept this mandate as the Chairman and it is not only for me but to all journalists, who believe in professionalism and better duties in Ogun State”, Olanrewaju emphasised.

Penpushing also reports that he recalled the covenant of integrity, trust, resilience, made three years ago, stressing that journalism in the state remains stronger, and equally commended the electoral committee for job well done in conducting free and fair poll

The chairman pointed out that the election was symbolic and simplified, adding that the election will surely bury the fear of godfatherism in the state.

Meanwhile the swearing in ceremony was graced by notable personalities, including, Prince Dimeji Kayode Adedeji;(Founder Penpushing Media) Mr Tunde Kazeem (General Manager Ogun State Television), Mrs Oluremi Olugbenro (General Manager Federal Radio Corporation, Paramount F.M) and Otunba Dare Odufowokan (Senior Special Assistant to Governor on Communications) among others
