The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has resigned from her position, adding that this period marks the end of a significant chapter in her journey of service.
Penpushing reports that Onyejeocha announced her resignation on Friday through a letter shared on her social media platforms, three days after the March 31,2026 deadline set by the President.
The former Minister, however, did not disclose the elective position she intends to contest in 2027, while she became the third cabinet member to resign following President Bola Tinubu’s directive for appointees seeking elective office in 2027 to vacate their positions.
“It is with a heart full of gratitude that I announce my resignation as Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment. This decision comes with profound gratitude to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the opportunity to serve Nigeria in his administration’, she wrote.
‘This is not an end but a new beginning. I remain committed to service, to progress, and to building the Nigeria we all deserve. Thank you, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This period marks the end of a significant chapter in my journey of service as I formally resign as Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment’, Onyejeocha added.
Penpushing further reports that she expressed gratitude to the President, members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), and Nigerians for the opportunity to serve, describing her tenure as a privilege.
The former Minister commended ministry staff for their dedication, professionalism, and partnership, noting their contributions in strengthening workers’ rights, enhancing workplace safety, and expanding employment opportunities.
Penpushing also reports that Onyejeocha, a former lawmaker, who represented Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency of Abia State in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2023, equally thanked her constituents for their support over the years.
The female former Minister emphasized that as one-chapter closes, another opens, adding that she remains committed to service, to progress, and to building the Nigeria we all deserve.
