The management of United Nigeria Airlines has refused to refund the air ticket payment of veteran journalist and former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, Deaconess Olufunke Fadugba.

Penpushing reports that Fadugba, who is the Editorial Board Chairman of Penpushing Media, had purchased a ticket from the airline on Monday, August 17, 2026, to travel to Enugu for the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) Conference scheduled for September 23–27, 2026.

The airline acknowledged receipt of the payment and sent a confirmation mail to Fadugba for the sum of N194,692.99.

“Receipt from THE TRAVELWING GLOBAL NIGERIA LIMITED. Your payment was successful and has been received by THE TRAVELWING GLOBAL NIGERIA LIMITED. NGN 194,692.99. PAYMENT DETAILS: Amount Paid – NGN 194,692.99. Payment Method – Card. Transaction Reference – TRAVELWINGSCOM_KFKJKX1786944068460416369. Mon, Aug 17, 2026’, the mail read:

“If you have questions or issues with this payment, contact THE TRAVELWING GLOBAL NIGERIA LIMITED at nigeria.care@travelwings.com or simply reply to this email. PLEASE NOTE: This debit will appear as Flutterwave or Flutterwave Payment in your bank statement,” it added.

Penpushing further reports that the airline, however, allegedly breached the agreement days later, claiming there was no seat available for Fadugba, a development which forced the journalist to purchase another ticket from Air Peace Airlines.

The frontline member of Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) Upon receiving the notice of unavailability of seats from United Nigeria Airlines, immediately requested a refund, a request which was acknowledged by the airline’s management.

“Greetings from http://Travelwings.com! We’ve received your recent reply for the ticket ‘2418228 Request For Refund’. Someone from our customer service team will review it and respond shortly. In case of any immediate assistance, please call our Customer Care number +234-2016361010. Thank you for your patience. Kind Regards, Customer Care Center. Email – nigeria.visa@travelwings.com. Tel – +234-2016361010’, the management wrote

Penpushing also reports that months after the exchange of correspondence between Fadugba and the airline, the management of United Nigeria Airlines has remained silent, despite regular reminders from the customer.

Meanwhile, the continued silence of the airline is seen as a deliberate attempt to frustrate the customer, while Fadugba is awaiting a timely refund to avoid instituting legal action against the airline.
