A former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, may have concluded arrangements to formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as the party set for its national convention.

Penpushing reports that sources from the party disclosed that Obi had concluded plans to join the party and to hold a declaration rally in Enugu, amid ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The sources added that the supporters and loyalists of the ubiquitous politician have commenced preparations for the defection, which is said will likely occurred in the next few days

Penpushing further reports that the political sources stated that the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) about three weeks ago ,when Obi met them was asked to make up his mind and renew his allegiance to the coalition.

The sources added that the party’s position might have convinced the former Anambra State governor to finally decide to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“We are aware that Peter Obi is making plans to declare for the ADC on December 31 in Enugu. Although he has yet to formally inform the party, the plans are genuine’, the sources emphasized

Penpushing also reports that the sources explained that Obi plan to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Enugu might be because that is the political capital of the South-East, adding that he (Obi) is representing the region, not just his state.

The National Publicity Secretary of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, however, said he could not confirm Obi’s planned defection, stating that as at the time of filing this report there has been no official announcement, but, however, confirmed that consultations are ongoing.

Penpushing reports that in reacting the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Dr Yunusa Tanko, declined to comment directly on the matter, insisting that only Obi could speak on it.
