A fast growing online newspaper, Tropic Reporters on Sunday celebrated its 4th anniversary with a public lecture focused on role of community journalism in nation building, as well as award bestowed on notable personalities in the country.
Penpushing reports that, the ceremony held at Commerce House located beside Ogun State Government house in Abeokuta, had in attendance number of dignitaries which include media practitioners and managers.
The lecture which was centred on community journalism was delivered by Irebami Soyinka a senior lecturer with the MacPherson University situated along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Penpushing further reports that, the guest lecturer emphasised on the relevance of community journalism, hence, the need to make contents significant to the people and source for news in the community
The guest lecturer called on media practitioners on need to create platforms where people can dialogue with them, which in return will pave way for developmental journalism, and for people to have trust in the media
Penpushing also reports that, the founder of Tropic Reporters, Adejola Adeyemi-Crown earlier in his welcome speech, said the theme, ’The role of community journalism in nation building’ was considered as it covers wider topics
The Publisher pointed out that community journalism concentrate on the effect it has on local readers, adding that he was optimistic that guests and other participants would learn something new from the guest lecturer
