There is nothing wrong in aged dating each other, says Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday declared that, there is nothing wrong if the aged are dating themselves, adding that such relationship serves as valuables to longetivity of those who might be involved.

Penpushing reports that, Obasanjo made this known while hosting members of the Senior Citizens Club, comprising the aged females and males, an event held at club hall located within the premises of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta

The 85 year old Obasanjo pointed out that, such relationship is part of social interaction that contributed positively to the health, mental and physical fitness of the old people, adding that, it is time the culture of old age should be adjusted

‘When I wanted to create the senior citizens club, somebody raised fear that, the platform may provide and encourage the aged in dating themselves. My response was that, what is wrong with that, it is part of social interaction, which added value to their living standard’, Obasanjo explained

Penpushing further reports that, he however, cautioned the aged on food consumption, adding that they should be more interested In balance diet, as well as showing interes in the their health, with regular check up

The former President who said there is no disease that is not manageable, even if it is terminal, used himself as good example, disclosing that, he has been a a diabetic patient for over forty years, and had been able to manage it till date

Penpushing also reports that, he identifiesd balance diet, adequate rest, exercise, medical attention and social interaction, as important factors that the aged should mindful off, at all time, adding that, that there is no disease that cannot be managed, even if such is not curable

The former President  on the need to re-adjust culture on care of the aged, explained that this became necessary, because of what is in vogue, which is the trooping out of the children for greener pastures

Penpushing reports that Obasanjo  stated that, records has shown that, when many of the children travelled out, they don’t look back, and stay put in diaspora, adding that, this development needs to be adjusted hence, need for creation of the senior citizens club, to engage in social interaction

‘We have to re-adjust our culture in regards old age, many children are not available to take care of their parents at old age, they are in diaspora, and this development is worrisome, so we need to adjust with time, and re-adjust our culture, hence, need for  establishment of senior citizens club’, he emphasized
