Terrorist have kidnapped two babies and six married women on farms in a community closed to the scene where they had kidnapped students sitting for National Examination Council (NECO) in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State
Penpushing reports that the abductors carried out the operations less than 24 hours before the attack on students in neighbouring Lassa, while the victims were working on farms between Mussa and Huyim District of the local government area
The sources said two of the women were carrying their babies when the attackers struck, adding that the attackers arrived on motorcycles before seizing the women and fled along bush paths.
Penpushing further reports that as at Tuesday the families had not heard from the abductors, nor had established contact to demand ransom, however, troops of Operation HADIN KAI, supported by strike aircraft and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms, made contact with the attackers around Daggu.
The Nigerian Army in a statement said its personnel engaged the terrorists in a firefight that resulted in the rescue of 10 victims unhurt adding that efforts continued to rescue the remaining victim.
Penpushing also reports that Borno State Police Command has said it is still reconciling attendance records with school authorities and parents because some students fled into neighbouring communities during the attack, making it difficult to immediately establish the exact number of those abducted.
The residents stated that the succession of attacks has left many families living in fear as the rainy season gathers pace, forcing many farmers to weigh the risks of tending their farms against staying away from their only source of livelihood.
