A Chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Otunba Segun Showunmi has been appointed as a member of the media and strategic communication directorate of President Bola Tinubu’s campaign council.
Penpushing reports that the inclusion of Showunmi was contained in the revised membership list of All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The chieftain of the opposition party is known to have remained active in national political discourse, making his reported inclusion in Tinubu’s campaign structure a development likely to attract attention across the political landscape.
Penpushing further reports that Showunmi is the convener of The Alternative Movement, a national opposition movement that has positioned itself as an alternative voice in Nigeria’s political space.
The fearless politician was sometime spokesperson to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who contested against Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election under the banner of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
Penpushing also reports that Showunmi’s inclusion in Tinubu’s campaign media team comes as political parties prepare for the next political dispensation, while the directorate is to be responsible for coordinating campaign messaging, media engagement and strategic communication.
The President, it would be recalled had earlier approved the campaign council, with former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari appointed Director-General and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma named secretary.
Penpushing reports that the list earlier released on August 22, 2026, indicated that Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris was named Coordinating Director for Media and Strategic Communication, alongside Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu.
The other officials named in the first list of the media structure included Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala and Felix Morka as coordinating deputy directors, while Segun Dada was named Director of New Media, a position he held during the 2022/2023 presidential campaign.
