A retired Assistant Director News Current Affairs, with Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Fatai Adiyeloja has petitioned that Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) over unauthorized deduction from his account with the bank.
Penpushing reports that Adiyeloja in a complaint letter to the headquarters of the bank in Victoria Island, Lagos, through the branch manager of the bank in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital said he discovered the missing money from his account number 0049478171on October 15, 2024.
The veteran broadcast journalist in the letter said after he registered his complaint to the branch of the bank in Abeokuta, he was told that the said illegal deduction was made by a faceless fraudster with the use of debit card at a POS centre.
‘Consequently, upon my inability to withdraw a sum of thirty thousand naira from my account on the 15th day of October on account of illegal deduction of a sum of one hundred and thirty-seven thousand naira in four tranches, a complaint was formally launched at we Iroyin branch office with Mr. Abdullah promising a full investigation’.
Penpushing further reports that following the said investigation he was compelled to ask some questions from the branch which include how did an unscrupulous person retrieve his card which got trapped Union Bank Panseke in the town ATM Centre and his PIN got compromised.
The other queries he raised was that why did he not receive a single alert in respect of the withdrawal done in four tranches, and that did the investigator from the Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) link up with Union bank to request the CCTV footage of activities at the ATM point.
Penpushing further reports that Adiyeloja said he was not satisfy with the silence of the management of the branch on the questions raised, after failed promised to get back to him through his email address which is over some weeks as at the time of filing this report, hence, his resolve to write headquarters of the bank.
‘As at today Monday 4th November, I have not received any notification on the disputed sum. To make the matter worst, I requested for a month statement of account at your Lawson Group of Schools Abeokuta branch on Friday 1st November with a promise that it would be sent to my Email within one hour. Am still being kept waiting’, he emphasized
‘There and then, I was told point blank I couldn’t make a withdrawal as the Iwe Irovin Branch did not specify while the account was blocked by me since 15th of October, 2024. This falls short of standard banking practise in this era of globalization. I hereby demand a thorough investigation of this anomalous situation within the next one week’, Adiyeloja wrote.
‘Be informed that a formal report has been made at Ibara Police Station while the Ogun State office of the Public Complaints Commission, my lawyer and my constituent (the media) have been duly notified for necessary action should the need arise’, the customer added
