Penpushing reports that the Governor who affirmed this development said he had spoken with the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emeifele shortly after he (Emefiele) held a meeting with the Managing Directors of the Commercial banks in the country

The Governor of Ogun State told Penpushing Media that, following his discussions with Emefiele, a sign of relief is now on the way for the suffering innocent Nigerians who had been facing difficult time as a result of the policy.

‘Yes you can quote me, I put a call across to the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele on Sunday over the issue. The masses are suffering, and there is agitation already, and this need to be address before it get out of hand’, Abiodun stated.

Penpushing also reports that the Governor on his own part said as a measure to address the old naira notes palava, he has read out a riot act to all financial institutions operating in the state in the habits of rejecting the old notes to desist or face full weight of the law.

The Governor who was empathetic with the residents, also declared that fuel stations, merchants and traders among others are not exempted from the directive, stressing that this became necessary in view of the Supreme Court judgement

Penpushing reports that the Governor insisted that any establishments doing contrary to the order may also risk the premises being seal up, and likely to face prosecutions, emphasising that the old naira notes remain legal tender till December 31, 2023

‘I am hereby sounding a note of warning to every Merchant, Trader, Banker, Petrol Station that is refusing old naira notes.  If you’re reported to me, I will deal with you to the fullest extent of the law.
