A renowned Islamic scholar, Asiwaju Kamal’deen Akintunde has been conferred with Bola Ajibola Community Award for Promotion of Youth Development and Inter-Faith Harmony at a ceremony held at Crescent University Campus, Abeokuta
Penpushing reports that the awardee speaking with journalists after receiving the award offered a balanced critique of Nigeria’s educational landscape, and challenged the Nigerian Government to ensure policies are impactful and realistic for the average Nigerian student.
The Secretary-General of the Ogun State Muslim Council, equally commended Nigerian Government for its focus on Technical Education and its quality over quantity approach in curbing the proliferation of new universities.
Penpushing further reports that Akintunde turning his sights to the state level, slammed the planned return of public schools to missionaries, arguing that the strength of a nation is not measured by the height of its private towers.
The Muslim leader, explained that rather it is by the accessibility of its public classrooms, describing the move as a breach of the Social Contract, warning that it would displace indigent children and exacerbate the out-of-school crisis.
Penpushing also reports that Akintunde’s remarks have set a new tone for the 2027 political conversation, emphasizing that Muslim interests and the rights of the poor must be central to governance in Ogun State.
