The rampaging coronavirus is now giving Nigerians sleepless nights, as records of the infections and victims continued to rise unabated on daily basis in the country, with 48 people reported dead of the complications between the Christmas and New Year period in the country.

Penpushing reports that records from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), as at Saturday, January 2, 2021 showed that ,thecountry has recorded  1,074 new cases, with Lagos recording 642 on new year day.

The data from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) showed that since the pandemic started, Nigeria has confirmed 88,587 cases, 74,373 discharged patients and 1,294 deaths recorded across the country as at the time of this report.

Penpushing further reports that latest record of the centre, as at at the time of filing this report showed Lagos State with record of 642,Kaduna(42),Rivers(78),FCT(66),Gombe(66),Kano(35)Ogun(31),Kastina(22),Plateau(20),Abia(7),Niger(4),Oyo(4),Akwa Ibom(3),Delta(2) and Osun(2)

The latest notable victim of the virus was Prof Femi Odekunle a member of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), who lost his life from coronavirus complications, inspite of all efforts to revive him with the provision of about 170 cylinder oxygen

Penpushing reports that following the gasping for air during his (Odekunle) treatment due to shortages in oxygen supply at the isolation centre at the University Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada in Abuja, donations of cylinders started coming in from friends, associates and family to save his life, but the man died

The Chief Medical Director, Dr Bissallah Ekele however, explained that  Odekunle died because of the “severity of his infection”, adding that following the shortage of cylinders of oxygen, some individuals and other hospitals came to their aide, adding thereafter the Presidential Task Force on coronavirus waded in and since resolved the shortage problem.

Penpushing also reports that, a concern Nigerian, Engr Dideolu Falobi lamented over the incessant and unabated virus, just as he confirmed that, he has lost six people known to him in the last one week.

The Managing Director of Kresta Laurel Limited who volunteered to sponsor number of media jingles to sensitise the public on the danger associated with the killer virus, also advised those who still believe there was no coronavirus, to retrace their steps, and ensure everybody religiously adhered to the coronavirus protocols and guidelines
