The process for selection of new traditional ruler of Akinale in owu kingdom of Egbaland started on Friday with presentation of five candidates for the royal seat of the ancient town.

Penpushing reports that the process conducted at the playing field of Akinale Baptist Primary School was conducted by officials of the Ewekoro local government led by the Secretary Hon Adewale Aladeselu.

The families who presented candidates include Ogunleye, Yusuf, Olabode, Akinbode and Adediran, while choice candidates of each family were presented by leaders of the family.

Penpushing further reports that nominees presented and accepted by the officials of the local government include Olumide Ogunleye, Suleiman Yusuf, Rasak Olabode, Oluwasoji Akinbola and Seyi Adediran

The ceremony conducted in a peaceful manner was equally witnessed by traditional chiefs of the community, number of indigenes, journalists as well as warrant chiefs, who will eventually pick the town choice of the royal father.

Penpushing also reports that the Secretary to the local government earlier in his speech explained that the role of the council is to serve as observers for presentation of the candidates, adding that on conclusion report will be submitted to appropriate authorities.

The council scribe explained that the local government has no right to choose traditional rulers, emphasizing that it is responsibility of the warrant chiefs, who are the kingmakers, and appeal for peace before commencement of the exercise

“We are here to observe and will send report to appropriate authorities. Local government has no right to select, but community has final say. The local government is neutral in the process. I appeal for peace”, he emphasised

Penpushing reports that Aladeselu at end of the ceremony commended the peaceful conduct explaining that the selection proper will be announced later by the prescribed authority which is the Ogun State Government in due course
