The Oyo State government, on Friday commenced the activities marking the celebration of this year’s Children’s day in honor of children across the state.

Penpushing reports that the weeklong event, themed: Effects of a Covid-19 pandemic on the total wellbeing of the Nigerian Child: Way forward’, kick-started with a special Jumat prayer held at the State Government Secretariat Central mosque, Agodi, Ibadan.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja Faosat Sanni, while addressing journalists shortly after the Jumat prayers said that the weeklong program would lasted for six days to celebrate children in the state and also boost their morale.

Penpushing further reports that, the commissioner however charged parents to be responsible and responsive in taking good care of their children, urging the children to also be  good ambassadors of their families.

The Chief Imam of Secretariat Central Mosque, Alhaji Imran Mustapha, commended the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for his efforts channeled towards giving qualitative education to children across the state.

Penpushing also reports that, it is recalled that Children’s Day is a commemorative date celebrated annually in honor of children, whose date of observance varies by country, and in 1925, International Children’s Day was first proclaimed in Geneva during the World Conference on Child Welfare.
