Oyo state council polls: Police, electoral commission warn youths, politicians against violence

The Oyo State Police Command has warned youths in the state to avoid been used by political merchants in scuttling electoral process in the state, saying that anybody caught violating rules of the exercise would be decisively sanctioned.

Penpushing reports that the warning came just as the, Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Aare Isaka Olagunju  urged politicians to shun violence and ensure peaceful conduct of the poll

The Police Command Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, in a statement urged parents and guardians to warn their wards to be of good conduct throughout the election process, adding that the command is determined in ensuring an hitch-free poll through strategic deployment of tactical and intelligence apparatus.

Penpushing further reports that, police said all constitutionally established election related laws would be enforced against the backdrop of providing comprehensive security coverage for the electoral officers, materials and electorate in general.

The police spokesman maintained that the 6am – 3pm curfew imposed across the 33 Local Government Areas by the State Government is to enable the conduct of the election without hindrance, saying that only persons on essential services are exempted from the restriction order.

Penpushing reports that, the command, however thanked residents for their support and cooperation in providing timely and credible information to the police, adding that in case of emergency, the command can always be reached through these emergency control room numbers: 615 (toll free) (OYO STATE SECURITY TRUST FUND), and Oyo State Police Command emergency lines 07055495413 and 08081768614.

The electoral body chairman, in similar development while calling for peaceful conduct at the poll,noted  that no blood of any individual in the state worth to be shed because of the election, adding that only in a peaceful atmosphere free and fair election can be conducted.

Penpushing further reports that,Olagunju while speaking with journalists stated that politicians should always considered interest of the masses by playing according to the rule of the election

“Let us be orderly, let’s conduct this election in a peaceful manner, there should be no any form of harassment, intimidation, violence, no blood of any people in this state worth of this election”,he emphasised

Penpushing also reports that Olagunju maintained that the commission shall be neutral, transparent and impartial in its activities, calling on the people of the state to come out en mass and vote for candidates of their choice
