Gunmen have attacked the facility of the Police Rapid Response Squad in Owerrinta, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State, in an attempt to free detainee, but the attack launched with use of dynamite resulted in death of a female detainee.
Penpushing reports that the Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa, was seen in a video clip uploaded on facebook confirming the incident, which led to the blowing off the roof by the gunmen who struck about one week ago.
The Commissioner while parading crime suspects at the police headquarters in the state on Thursday explained that the gunmen attempted to free some detainees in the police facility during the attack, stressing that the gunmen invaded the facility in three Toyota pickup trucks around midnight and opened fire on the facility.
“Our personnel successfully repelled the attack, but the assailants used dynamite to blow off our roof. In their attempt to free detainees, they opened fire, tragically causing the death of a female suspect’, he said.
Penpushing further reports that the police boss disclosed that after the attack, the police in the state employed technical tracking methods and arrested one of the suspects who as at the time of filing this report was custody for interrogation to help identify other accomplices.
