The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council on Wednesday appealed to the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo to rescue the council and members following invasion of the secretariat by some self-acclaimed members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

Penpushing reports that the council in a letter titled, ‘Save Our Soul: The Need to Call Special Assistant on Students Affairs to Order’, signed by Wale Olanrewaju (Chairman) and Bunmi Adigun (Secretary) explained that the invasion by the so-called students is posing a significant threat to the safety and well-being of journalists in the state

‘The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, writes to formally report and seek urgent intervention regarding a matter that poses a significant threat to the safety and well-being of our members’.

‘It concerns the activities of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Matters, Mr. Azeez Adeyemi, who has resulted at using police officers to harass, intimidate, and embarrass one of our members, Mr. Olajide Osoba, following a defamatory petition falsely labeling Mr. Osoba as a cultist – clearly an act of intimidation and character assassination’, the letter reads.

Penpushing further reports that the union drew the attention of the police boss to the genesis of the issues which started on May 1, 2025, at the June 12 Cultural Center,Kuto, Abeokuta, where Adeyemi allegedly directed his associates/boys, under the guise of the National Association of Nigeria Students, to assault Osoba

‘Although the matter was reported at the Ibara Police Station, no concrete action has been taken to address the situation, instead, Mr. Adeyemi continues to act with impunity, displaying a disregard for the rule of law and operating as though he is above it’, the union emphasised.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

‘Following this, we issued a press release (attached) declaring Mr. Adeyemi and his entourage persona non grata at our Secretariat, located at Iwe Iroyin House, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta. In clear deviance to this, he has continued to visit the premises, often accompanied by thugs, making threats and laying siege for Mr. Osoba’, the letter stated.

‘Just yesterday, the 24th June, 2025, Azeez Adeyemi in company of scores of his ‘thugs’ besieged the NUJ Secratriat, Iwe Iroyin Press Centre, constituting nuisance and created palpable fear and tension for both members and tenants within the council by chanting violent songs and claiming ownership of the Iwe Irohin’,

Penpushing also reports that the letter added that there are video and photographic evidence to this, and in view of this ugly development urged the police commissioner to use his office to intervene by apprehending Adeyemi to prevent further threat

‘In light of these, we urge your office to urgently intervene by investigating and apprehending Mr. Adeyemi to prevent any further escalation or potential harm to any of our members’, the letter stated.

‘For the safety and integrity of our union and its members, we respectfully request that Mr. Azeez Adeyemi be made to comply with the order restricting him from coming near our secretariat and be held accountable under the law. We count on your prompt and decisive action’, the union wrote
