The Ogun State Government on Friday took over medical expenses of the underage girl who was inflicted with injuries when the guardian, Temitope Adeyanju set her private part on fire over alleged eating of family biscuits in Obada axis of Ewekoro local government area of the state.

Penpushing reports that the alleged culprit has been arrested by the police and will be charged to court on completion of investigation, while the innocent girl has been taken to General Hospital, Sokenu, Abeokuta where she is currently being admitted.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development Hon Morunrayo Adijat Adeleye in an update on the ugly development explained that in response the Ministry immediately swung into action to locate and identify the victim and the alleged 25-year-old perpetrator involved in the incident

‘Our attention has been drawn to an alleged case of abuse and mistreatment in a viral video, where a minor is shown to have been badly beaten and tortured. In response, the Ministry has immediately swung into action to locate and identify the victim and the alleged perpetrator involved in this incident, Mrs. Adeyanju Temitope, 25 years old, who is currently in police custody’, Adeleye said.

Penpushing further reports that the commissioner added that with the assistance of various stakeholders, the government was able to obtain relevant details to aid further investigation by law enforcement agencies.

‘Furthermore, as part of our proactive efforts, we are immediately taking responsibility for the minor for full medical attention. We are committed to providing her with adequate medical and psychosocial support’, she emphasised.

Penpushing also reports that the government, however, assured the public that it remains steadfast in commitment to safety and child protection, stressing that anyone who engages in actions contrary to the State Child Rights Law will face the full wrath of the law.

‘We wish to reassure the public that the State Government, under the leadership of the Prince Dapo Abiodun administration, remains steadfast in its commitment to safety and child protection. We also remind the general public that anyone who engages in actions contrary to the State Child Rights Law will face the full wrath of the law’, Adeleye stated.

‘We appeal to all members of the public to protect minors and report any cases of child abuse or gender-based violence. We assure you that the protection of sources is guaranteed. Reports can be made to the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. You can also reach us via our IG handle @Ogunministryofwomen or on X via @hon_motunrayo’, she emphasised.
