The Ogun State Government has made payment of N10,000 to 100,000 indigent students from all public primary and secondary schools across state as palliative to cushion the effect of economic challenges and make life easier for the citizenry.

Penpushing reports that the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, made this known during the monitoring of the transfer of the money to parents of the learners in schools across Abeokuta.

The commissioner added that the generosity was to support the parents in providing basic needs for the learners such as, books, footwear, uniforms and other essentials, assuring that it was a tip of the iceberg among the numerous plans of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration towards providing qualitative, affordable and accessible education.

‘We asked Principals through their class teachers to identify the indigent learners in their schools; we paid directly into their parents’ accounts, no intermediary, so that the money will get to the right people we want it to get to”, he said.

Penpushing further reports that in reactions, some parents in Abeokuta Grammar School, Saje High School and Muslim Primary School in Abeokuta, Mrs. Janet Agha, Mr. Samson Ojanuga, Mr. Oluwasegun Showunmi and Mrs. Basirat Adeleye, expressed gratitude to the state government.

The parents noted that the gestures would cover some school expenses of their children and wards, while in same vein, parents in Ebenezer Grammar School, Iberekodo, Unity High School, Ago-Ika and African Grammar School, Ita-Eko Mr. Lukman Adekoya, Mrs. Sadia Akintunde, Mr. Saka Ifabiyi and Mrs. Mariam Hazmat appreciated the governor for his vested interest in education, saying the money would settle basic needs of their children.
