The Ogun State House of Assembly has shifted its inauguration to 20th June 2023, earlier scheduled to hold on Tuesday, a shift which has created a vacuum in the legislative arm of the state government for 11 days.
Penpushing reports that the postponement was made known by the Clerk of the House, Deji Adeyemo, in a statement issued out on Monday, and regretted any inconvenience the announcement might have caused
“This is to inform you that the Holding of the First Session of the Tenth Assembly of the Ogun State Legislature has been postponed to Tuesday, 20th June 2023. Any inconvenience caused by this announcement is regretted’, Adeyemo wrote.
Penpushing further reports that new composition of the assembly with 26 members has the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) having 17 members while the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) has 9 members.
The sources at the assembly as at the time of filing this report disclosed that two contenders for the speakership seat include the immediate past Speaker Rt Hon Kunle Oluomo and his former deputy, Hon Oludaisi Elemide.
Penpushing reports that Elemide, is a three-time member of the assembly representing the Odeda constituency, while Oluomo from Ifo state constituency is also known to be a veteran politician in the assembly
The immediate past speaker and his arch rival are from the Ogun Central senatorial district, which is expected to produce a new speaker in line the zoning arrangement of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) in the state.
