The traditional ruler of Owu Kingdom of Egbaland, Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu has been reported to have joined his ancestors at the age of 80 on Sunday after a brief illness in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital.

Penpushing reports that Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Afolabi Afuwape, made this known in a statement adding that the deceased, a veteran Television producer, ascended the throne in 2005 as the 13th Olowu after Oba Adewale Adisa Odeleye, Lagbedu 1 who passed away in 2003.

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin expressed shock over the death of the monarch and prayed that God Almighty grants deceased  soul eternal repose, and the people he left behind the fortitude to bear this loss.”

Penpushing further reports that, the late Olowu was a close ally of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and  had been a civil servant, broadcaster and politician, while he had  worked at Nigerian Railway Corporation(NRC) Ebute Metta, Lagos State.

The late monarch later joined a broadcasting organisation where he rose to the position of Head of Drama Department, and he attended King’s College in Lagos state in 1956 and was later admitted into Hendon College of Technology in London to study Drama and Television Production in 1963.

Penpushing also reports that, Dosunmu attended Landmark Baptist College, Tennessee, the United States of America (USA) in 1987 where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, while after he left the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation in 1975; he proceeded to establish a private film production outfit, Starline Films Limited.

The deceased was a devoted Christian, who preached to his aides and palace workers on weekly basis, about good behaviours and Jesus Christ to them, and at different times during his lifetime, had said he did not partake in any ritual before and during his reign as king.
