A sporting marketing firm, Nilayo Sports Management Company has donated brand new Kia Rio saloon car to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ogun State Chapter, as a gesture to support the union, which is the cradle of journalism in Nigeria.

Penpushing reports that the Chief Executive Officer of the company Hon Bukola Olopade made the pronouncement while speaking as chairman at the occasion of the Christmas carol organized by the union.

The company boss who was a former Commissioner for Youth and Sports in the state said the organization was impressed with facelift of the body of journalists and return of peace now being enjoyed by the union, after a protracted crisis which engulfed the union some years ago

Penpushing further reports that Olopade who is the Chairman Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 2024 Gateway Games, called on the youths to use the opportunity of the coming sporting activities to bring themselves to limelight positively

The Chief Executive Officer, speaking at the Iwe-Iroyin Press Centre of the carol held in Abeokuta, equally charged journalists to continue using their pen to expose and correct the ills in the society stressing that role of journalists in nation building cannot be over emphasized

Penpushing also reports that he in same vein, tasked journalists and the Ogun state citizens to be part of the coming 2024 Sports festival, which, according to him, is going to be a world class while appreciating Governor Dapo Abiodun for taking the bid to host

The preacher at the event Prophet Soji Oyesanya who gave the Christmas message commended Ogun State Journalists for always been above board pointing out that they have continued to be a shining light of the profession.

Penpushing reports that Oyesanya said the journalists should henceforth not see themselves as watchdogs, rather they are better described as shepherd, whose role is to see to the welfare and wellbeing of the citizens.

The cleric buttressing his claim explained that dogs are known to eat bones, adding that journalists should not be seen in such category, while shepherds are known to be responsible for the betterment of the sheep, and therefore the media should always play the role of shepherd

Penpushing further reports that the Southwest Coordinator, Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) Dr. Abimbola Babalola read the first lesson, the General Manager of the Ogun State Television (OGTV), Mr Tunde Kassim who was represented by the Assistant General Manager News and Current Affairs, Biodun Alabi read the second lesson
