The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Oyo and Osun States Area Command said that the command generated N15,890,489,479.26 between 1st of February 2021 to 30th of April 2021
Penpushing reports that the Comptroller of the Area Commands, Adam Abdulkadir disclosed this while briefing journalist at the command headquarters in Ibadan stating that the money generated was the cumulative of import duty from bonded terminal, excise duty from factories under the excise net, auction fees and all other ancillary charges into both federation and non federation accounts.
The area command boss noted that the Comptroller-General of Customs has directed more stringent measures to further strengthen the interception capabilities of customs officers in corroboration with the extant laws and regulations guiding import/export procedures of the country.
Penpushing further reports that Abdulkadir lamented that unscrupulous elements are frustrating efforts of the command towards its anti-smuggling activities, saying that they shall be dealt with decisively in line with Customs and Excise Management Act, Cap C45 LFN 2004 (CEMA) which guide the operation of customs service.
“For those who used to block or attack our officers, preventing them from making required arrests and seizures in your communities, be rest assured that we shall fish you out and prosecute you. We have sharpen our intelligence, re-strategized, and create new patrol team and drawn more robust Area of Responsibility to help combat the illicit activities”, he said
“Our command has made seizure of 3,312 (50kg) bags of of rice, 487 (25ltr) kegs of petrol, 221 cartons of imported dry fish, 9 sacks of cannabis sativa, six bales of used shoes, 138(10ltrs) gallons of vegetable oil, and 572(2.5ltrs) gallons of vegetable oil among others’.
“In wake of the security challenges to showcase the achievements of the command, we have inaugurated “Operation Fish Out” team to further enhance our anti smuggling capabilities by taking the battle to smugglers den through tactical raids and interception of smuggled items through our border and another proficient team has been set up codename the “Excise Task Force” to manage the Excise Factories extensively and widen the dragnet to infuse factories that have qualified to be enlisted under the Custom and Excise control.”
“The development has further improved the performance and achievement of the command on revenue and enforcement procedures, we have carried out our enforcement and anti smuggling activities with utmost professionalism, caution and intelligence gathering.”
Penpushing also reports that the custom boss however urged the public to cooperate with the his men towards implementation of government fiscal policies to help improved the Economic and Social welfare of the nation
