The Nigeria Soccer Squad Super Eagles on Monday defeated Guinea-Bissau in their 100th match at the 2024 ongoing Nations Cup tournament with 1-0 victory to make it through the round of 16 at the tournament.

Penpushing reports that Super Eagles had to settle for second spot in Group A, while the only goal of the encounter was an own goal by Opa Sangante in the 36th minute, but Nigeria finished behind Equatorial Guinea, who defeated hosts Cote d’Ivoire 4-0 to win the group.

The results meant Equatorial Guinea finished as Group A winners, with Nigeria coming second, with both teams recording seven points, while the Elephants have to wait for the rest of Matchday 3 matches to determine if they will continue in the tournament.

Penpushing further reports in the encounter Coach Jose Peseiro continued with the 3-4-3 formation which also saw changes, which include Kenneth Omeruo coming in to replace William Troost-Ekong and was handed the captain’s band.

The changes in the encounter in same vein, resulted in Joe Aribo replacing Alex Iwobi, while Ademola Lookman was given a rest after starting the first two matches, with Moses Simon reinstated, and at the start of the second half, Super opened up the Djurtus defense.

Penpushing also reports that Moses Simon, however, failed to successfully dribble past Jonas Asvedo Mendes in goal for Guinea-Bissau, while Osimhen climbed highest in the 55th minute, but was unable to head Aina’s cross on target.

The match recorded that Raphael Onyedika made his maiden appearance in the 61st minute as he was introduced to replace Frank Onyeka, with Moses creating a scoring chance for Iwobi in the 64th minute but he passed it wide.

Penpushing reports that in the 69th minute of the encounter Aina had a shooting chance, however, failed to get his knee over the ball and shot over, while another scoring chance was missed by Osimhen as Aina once again delivered from the left flank.

The 81st minute of the match saw Nwabali in action and from the corner kick, Nigeria scored, but it was cancelled for offside, with records showing that the Super Eagles like in their first match missed a glut of scoring chances.

Penpushing further reports that with the second position of the Super Eagles in their group having defeated Guinea-Bissau, Nigeria as at now awaits either Guinea or Cameroon as their round of 16 opponents
