The coupists in Niger Republic have ordered the French Ambassador in the country Sylvain Itte, to leave within 48 hours for refusing to respond to an interview invitation from the junta, stressing that the actions of the French Government were contrary to interest of the country.

Penpushing reports that the order to leave was contained in a letter by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation addressed to the French Foreign Ministry, emphasizing that one of the major reasons for the expulsion was the adamant posture of the French Government, which was not in line with Niger Republic interest

The French Government in response to the junta’s letter, said it has taken note of the coupists request, arguing, however, that they(coupists) do not have the authority to make this request, in view of the fact that they are not legitimate

“France has taken note of the putschists’ request, however, the putschists do not have the authority to make this request, the ambassador’s approval coming solely from the legitimate elected Nigerien authorities”, the response reads

Penpushing further reports that France’s Foreign Ministry added that it is constantly evaluating the security and operating conditions of its embassy in Niamey, adding that France joined other world leaders to condemn the coup and has consistently called for the reinstatement of President Mohammed Bazoum.

The French Government in similar vein has also made public its support for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and its resolutions against the coupists who forcefully sacked the democratically elected government in Niger Republic.
