The Resource Justice Network (RJN) In partnership with Community Education Advancement of Peace and Development Initiative (CEAPDI) on Friday conducted a debriefing and training on kobo-collect for member Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Ogun State.
Penpushing reports that the event which took place on September 4, 2026 was held at the conference room of Community Education Advancement of Peace and Development Initiative (CEAPDI) at Oyebola Shopping Mall, Iyana-Cele, Adatan, Abeokuta.
The participants were made to understand that Resource Justice Network (RJN) was formerly known as Publish What You Pay (PWYP) with its work focusing on the environment and mining sector.
Penpushing further reports that a member of the Board of Trustee (BoT) Prof. Temitope Olaifa, in her goodwill message appreciated all members present on behalf of Resource Justice Network (RJN) National Office.
The National General Secretary Prof. Helen Bodunde made participants to understand that The Resource Justice Network (RJN) is a civil society network advocating for just, inclusive, and equitable governance of the planet’s natural resources to promote transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in the management of oil, gas, and mining revenues, the coalition underwent a historic global rebrand to the Resource Justice Network
Penpushing also reports that she explained that it signifies a deliberate expansion from focusing strictly on financial and revenue transparency to tackling broader issues of social justice, human rights, and environmental sustainability.
The national scribe explained that the network equally aims to ensure that communities directly impacted by resource extraction are the primary beneficiaries of that wealth, rather than bearing only the negative externalities like pollution, health crises, and destroyed livelihoods.
Penpushing reports that Bodunde said, Resource Justice Network (RJN) strategies integrate anti-corruption campaigns, civic space protection, gender equity, beneficial ownership transparency, and accountability in the face of the global energy transition.
The State Coordinator Adesina Adefolahan on the State Action Plan, took members through an identified Action Plan for the rest of 2026 which include: conducting debriefing meeting and training on Kobocollect for Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Ogun on the Status of project and conducting update and follow up Assessment of members of Resource Justice Network (RJN) Ogun State
Penpushing further reports that Adefolafan added that it also includes community sensitization and media engagement, conducting five advocacy meetings to Leadership of Host communities in Ogun State, dissemination of NEITI FASD Report, and facilitating at least two media engagement on Resource Justice in Ogun State
The coordinator explained that community monitoring involves: citizens coming up as independent monitoring of oil, gas and mining operations, community led process for tracking extractive sector impacts, building a bridge between communities, companies and regulators
Penpushing also reports that he explained that what is required of a community monitor are: minimum literacy level, ability to use basic mobile tools, neutrality, adding that basic skills required by community monitors are: participation and inclusive,neutrality and credibility, technology and data ethics and human rights and environmental justice
The coordinator stated that others are technical tools, understand extractive sector Governance: NEITI Act and PIA, EIA regulations, conflict resolution skills,field safety and data ethics, conflict sensitive negotiation and understanding labour laws
Penpushing reports that Adefolahan said roles of community monitors include environmental monitoring: air and water quality assessment, safety surveillance – identify hazards, structural integrity, emergency alert, data collection and reporting: Precision, monitoring and reporting
Meanwhile, participants were introduced to how to use Kobo-Collect on the field through step-by-step practical guide on how to fill, complete and submit the form , and on implementation of action plan, members of the network resolved to hold two advocacy visit to two traditional rulers of host communities in the month of September, 2026.
