The popular Ikoyi Club in Lagos State has suspended a 72 year old member, Modupe Alakija, a notable legal practitioner for physically assaulting and abusing a fellow member and conduct injurious to the interest of the club.
Penpushing reports that, the one year suspension order placed on the husband of billionaire businesswoman, Folorunsho Alakija was contained in a circular issued and signed by the Honorary Secretary of Ikoyi Club, Bamidele Ibironke .
The circular declared that, the suspension takes effect from December 1, 2021 to November 30 2022, stressing that his (Alakija’s) conduct violated Rule 9(C) of the Club’s Rule Book, hence should remained suspended for the period
“The above-named member of the Club is hereby placed on a one year suspension from the Club for physically assaulting and abusing a fellow member, conduct injurious to the interest of the Club, thereby violating Rule 9(C) of the Club’s Rule Book.This suspension takes effect from December 1″, 2021 to November 30 2022,” the circular emphasized.
The suspended Alakija, who is the chairman of Famfa Oil was said to have slapped a member of the club whom he accused of disrespecting him, and this led to a scuffle between the duo and disruption of peace within the club.
Penpushing further reports that, confirming the order, a duty manager of the club,affirmed that the suspension letter has been forward to Alakija, which he said contained details of the offence and sanction.
Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this reports, the suspended member could not be reach for comments or reaction over his suspension, as well as allegations of assault levelled against him.
