The principal suspect in the death of a 61-year-old retired teacher, Mrs Adedotun Adeteju Oluwaseun has confessed that he murdered the woman for her failure to lend him ₦1,500,000 towards purchasing another vehicle

Penpushing reports that the suspect Saburi Lateef Ayinde, who was arrested after eight months of commission of the crime in Agbaakin Emere, Bode-Olude, Abeokuta made the confessional statement during interrogation.

The suspect popularly called “Oki-Ocean”, linked the incident to financial dealings with the deceased, claiming that he had entrusted ₦3,450,000 to her for safekeeping, with an understanding that she would lend him ₦1,500,000 towards purchasing another vehicle

Penpushing further reports that Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer Seyi Babaseyi in a statement said the retired teacher was killed by the suspect at her residence in Agbaakin Emere, Bode-Olude, Abeokuta, on February 27, 2026.

The statement stated that following sustained investigative efforts, the case was transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation, culminating in the arrest of the suspect on October 19, 2026.

‘The deceased’s lifeless body was discovered in the toilet of her residence on 28th February 2026, a day after she reportedly returned from a retirement celebration organised by her colleagues’, Babaseyi wrote.

Penpushing also reports that he explained that preliminary investigations indicated that the woman was allegedly strangled and attacked with a machete during an altercation with the suspect.

‘The suspect reportedly confessed to the killing and linked the incident to financial dealings with the deceased, claiming that he had entrusted ₦3,450,000 to her for safekeeping, with an understanding that she would lend him ₦1,500,000 towards purchasing another vehicle’, he added.

Penpushing reports that Babaseyi in the statement added that detectives are working to corroborate the suspect’s account and establish the full circumstances surrounding the murder.

The statement said Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the investigating officers for their persistence, professionalism and commitment to securing a breakthrough, and reiterated the command’s resolve to pursue serious crimes through diligent investigation, ensure accountability and bring offenders to justice through lawful prosecution.

Penpushing further reports that he said the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation, and urged residents to resolve disputes lawfully and promptly report criminal activities, assuring the public that credible information will be acted upon professionally.
