The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Omotayo Maternity Home, Ibadan, Olapeju Agunbiade, on Tuesday disclosed that rendering free medical services to pregnant women and nursing mothers is part of her service to humanity in life.
Penpushing reports that Agunbiade stated this during the celebration of over 200 babies delivered in the hospital without any charges, held at the Hospital Corporate Headquarters, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, Oyo State Capital.
The Proprietress of the famous maternity hospital noted, the challenges facing pregnant mothers in Nigeria as enormous which calls for urgent attention from both the government and private individuals, calling on all stakeholders to play their roles in other to save the lives of the women.
“I have observed over the years that a lot of women are struggling to have access to proper and adequate antenatal health care because of funds which makes most of them falls into the hands of fake or quacks health care officials”, she noted
“I decided that in order to save life, something must be done, so I decided to raise funds for free delivery for pregnant women and their children, this program is limited to Ibadan for now, but we intend to extend it as time goes on”, Agunbiade emphasised
“We have delivered over 200 babies for free since I started the project February 2020, for me saving the life of Nigerian women is important considering the pain women pass through when about to deliver baby.”
The Ijesan born trained nurse and medical practitioner however called on the government to acknowledge the project, saying that nothing is small to support the project in saving lives of Nigerians.
Penpushing further reports that, one of the beneficiaries of the free health projects, Mrs Kehinde Monsurat, said that the program is helpful to pregnant women and nursing mothers, adding that this has go a long way in addressing challenges been faced by women when about to deliver.
“We used to pay N10, 000 above in the State Hospitals whenever we want to deliver our baby, but here, no charges because it is absolutely free”, the excited mother said
Penpushing also reports that another beneficiary, Mrs Ojo Abimbola said, “We all know that we are in the month of May, so today Omotayo Hospital want to celebrate children that were born in their hospital.”
“Its for us to brings our children and to make our children happy, there is free delivery and good care for us and our children, all the staff are caring and hardworking, I did an operation without collecting a dime from me.”, she stated
