A middle aged man on Friday caused a mild drama as he disrupted a Lagos-Abuja flight of Ibom airline over alleged threats against Nigeria’s president-elect, Bola Tinubu, stressing that he (Tinubu) should not be allowed to be sworn in.

Penpushing reports that the passenger who claimed to be a PhD holder in law was seen in a video while in the middle of the aircraft shouting on top of his voice as a loyalist of Presidential Candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi

“You all are sitting here, and Tinubu is about to be sworn in as President. Tinubu must never be sworn in. He must never be President. I am a PhD holder in law and I’ll keep saying what I am saying”, he emphasized

Penpushing further reports that his conducts and utterances attracted the attention of other passengers aboard the flight, and was advised to go to court by other passengers, while in the course of the mild drama, airport security officials evacuated the man from the aircraft.

The passenger, however, proved difficult to be evacuated from the aircraft, as he intermittently said he is ‘Obidient’, referring to the collective name adopted by supporters of the Labour Party candidate in the 2023 presidential election.

Penpushing also reports that as at the time of filing this report it was not clear whether the man is a supporter of the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate in the just concluded Presidential election where Obi came third.

The management of Ibom Air while reacting to the development on Saturday confirmed the incident as well as the evacuation of the passenger from its Abuja-Lagos bound flight in a statement issued by Aniekan Essienette, Group Manager, Marketing and Communication of the airline

Penpushing reports that the Group Manager, Marketing and Communications in the statement described the passenger’s behaviour as inappropriate and unruly, which made other passengers being nervous

The statement added that following unruly behaviour of the man and coupled with unsafe situation the management of the airline invited airport security to help put the situation under control, but the management did not provide further information about the passenger after he was forcefully ejected from the aircraft

‘A passenger stood up and began addressing other passengers in a manner considered inappropriate and unruly, as he was making other passengers nervous. We are aware that several videos and reports of this incident are circulating on social media and wish to provide the right perspective,” the statement noted.

‘Ibom Air wishes to assure our passengers that we maintain very high safety and service standards and will never compromise the safety and security of our passengers. We apologise to the affected passengers for the time it took to disembark this passenger, which caused an otherwise on-time departure to be delayed by an hour,” the statement said.
