A suspected internet fraudster identified as Emmanuel has allegedly hacked bank account of a retiree, resident in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital and illegally withdrew substantial money of his victim, Oluremi Idowu.
Penpushing reports that the retiree narrating his ordeal said the alleged fraudster had earlier hacked into his Facebook account on March 14, 2023 and forwarded a deceitful application to him, which the victim ignorantly accepted
The innocent retiree said in a twinkle, in accepting the Apps, he noticed a six digit number on his mobile phone, and thereafter and the scammer asked him to forward the code to him again, which he ignorantly sent, explaining that the next thing he noticed was that his mobile phone went blank
Penpushing further reports that Idowu said when he earlier enquired from the alleged fraudster what was the essence of the code sent to him, said, it was to help him reset his(Idowu’s) faulty Whapshaat contact
The victim said after the development he observed that the money in his bank account had been withdrawn by the suspect, adding that he did not stop there and started contacting all his whastssap contacts requesting for financial assistance.
Penpushing also reports that the retiree explained that the alleged fraudster as a way to deceive contacts on his (Idowu) whassap, presented himself as the owner of the mobile phone, under pretence that it was him (Idowu) seeking for financial support
‘At around 22.30pm of Day 14th March, I was on Facebook Apps when I mistakenly pressed an Apps which is below the one I wanted to use. The next thing I noticed was a six digit number was shown on my phone’, he recalled
‘The above number (0810918149) called me that I should give a new code, he has sent. When I asked him why and for what, he said I wanted to reset, stored my Whatshapp App which had earlier been blurred’
‘Since then he has blocked me on my personal phone lines 08031247959, 08035761728 and operate same to reach my contacts, asking them to send money to the above account details. The scammer uses Access bank account number 1712466146 and GTB Account number 0763239995 to defraud my contacts’, he stated.
Penpushing reports that the retiree disclosed that as at the time of filing this report he has contacted his banks to blocked his accounts to avoid further withdrawal by the alleged fraudster, and called on all his contacts to be aware of the ploy
