The re-arrested leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has declared that he did not jump bail as being alleged, explaining that, rather he went underground when his life was in danger, following invasion of his house by Nigerian Army.
Penpushing reports that, Kanu made this known while arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, to continue his trial on allegation of treasonable felony instituted by the Nigerian government against him.
“I did not jump bail, My lord, I only went underground when the Nigerian armed forces raided my residence in Abia State, which led to the death of some people. So, I had to run for my safety’, he told the court.
Penpushing furthers that, earlier at proceedings on Tuesday, the prosecuting counsel, Magaji Labaran moved an ex parte application urging the court to remand Kanu in the State Security Srvice(SSS) custody in Abuja.
The prosecutor based his request on the grounds that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), leader violated the conditions of the bail earlier granted him by the court.
Penpushing also reports that, the trial judge, Justice Binta Nyako, ordered the detention of Kanu in the custody of the State Security Service (SSS) at his first court appearance since 2017 on Tuesday.
