The Kano State High Court has sentenced a 47-year-old Chinese man, Geng Quandong to death by hanging for killing his 23-year-old Nigerian girlfriend, Ummukulsum Buhari, at Janbalu quarters in Kano State in September 2022
Penpushing reports that the Kano State Government had charged the convict with culpable homicide over the death of the girlfriend who he (Quarong) said allegedly refused to marry him after allegedly exploiting him.
The judge, Justice Sanusi Ado-Ma’aji delivering judgement held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, adding that the defendant’s testimony is inconsistent and therefore found him guilty
Penpushing report that the judge, however, opened a window for a reprieve for the condemned man, who had earlier told the court that he didn’t kill the lady intentionally, but stabbed her in self-defence after he grabbed her testes
Meanwhile, the deceased mother Fatima Zubairu while speaking with journalists in reaction to the judgement expressed satisfaction with the judge’s decision.
